Julie Soininen obtained a J.D. from the George Washington University Law School and graduated from Wellesley College with a B.A. in political science. Julie’s previous professional experience includes working as a sole practitioner and as an attorney/advisor for the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of the Administrative Law Judges where her responsibilities included drafting several decisions for the Board of Alien Labor Certification Appeals.
Julie is experienced in all facets of immigration law and has litigated thousands of deportation and removal cases in Immigration Courts throughout the United States. Her favorite cases involve complex waivers and applications for NACARA. Julie also oversees all alien labor certification filings at Montagut & Sobral.
Julie spearheaded Montagut and Sobral’s efforts in the filing of a lawsuit against the Trump administration in 2020 which ultimately led to the settlement in Carecen v. Jaddou. Six clients of Montagut and Sobral agreed to serve as Plaintiffs in the lawsuit. As a result of the Carecen settlement, thousands of TPS beneficiaries with prior removal or deportation orders were able to obtain legal permanent residence in the United States.
Julie is a member of the DC Bar, and has volunteered with the DC Bar’s Immigration Legal Advice and Referral Clinic, the Catholic Legal Immigration Network’s BIA Pro Bono Project, the Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless and the DC Bar’s Lawyer Assistance program. She has served as faculty at multiple conferences and speaking engagements sponsored by local Bar Associations, the American Immigration Lawyers Association and various non-profit organizations. Julie is fluent in Spanish and speaks some French; Latin was her first second language.
